Weather Alert: Final Day of Heat Wave; Afternoon and Evening T’Storms

Today is the 6th and final day of our heat wave, with high temperatures in the mid 90s and high humidity combining to push the heat index to near 100 again today. It’s a dry start, with a mix of clouds and sunshine through the morning. In the afternoon, an approaching cold front will bring the risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms from the mid to late afternoon through the evening. Hour by Hour // A look at the next hours’ conditions » Some of the storms could be strong or severe, with damaging wind gusts and frequent lightning. The storms could contain torrential downpours, leading to a quick 1″ or more of rain and producing localized street and poor drainage flooding. AT THE BEACH: A warning for beach goers today–the waters will be rough, with the surf building to 5-7 feet. That will lead to a moderate to high risk for dangerous rip currents. Please use caution in the water and don’t swim alone. It will be breezy, humid and warm with partly sunny skies. Showers and thunderstorms are possible late day and evening. Ocean, Bay & Beach // A look at the conditions by the coast » Any showers and thunderstorms this evening taper off early tonight, with mostly cloudy skies. By dawn, temperatures will be in the upper 60s to near 70…. a little cooler and less humid than the last few nights. Wednesday starts a stretch of more seasonable temperatures with highs in the low 80s. It will still be humid, but not nearly as oppressive as the last week. The daylight hours of Wednesday look mostly dry, but we’ll have the chance for rain Wednesday night and into Thursday depending on the track of an area off-shore disturbance. With a severe …

WPRI 12 is looking for viewer opinions

WPRI 12 and its affiliated stations and websites are currently seeking Southern New Englanders to join an ongoing viewer feedback panel.

WPRI 12 has partnered with RAM (Research and Analysis of Media) in hopes of learning from viewers through brief online surveys in order to improve its content, offerings and advertising.

Whether you watch TV every day or just on occasion, the surveyors want to hear from as many people as possible.

Each time respondents answer a survey, they'll earn points that can be redeemed for Amazon gift cards. For example, earn 1,000 points to receive a $5 Amazon card, earn 1,500 points to receive a $10 Amazon card, and so on.
